Steelhead, or ocean trout as they are commonly called, are native to areas where the Pacific Ocean meets North America as well as
Asia. In the US steelhead are most common in the Northwest, in Alaska and Washington. Fishing for steelhead is quite popular and offers a challenge for both novice and pros.
The Skeena River
The Skeena is located in British Columbia and is the second-largest river in Canada. The current record for the largest steelhead ever caught, at 36 pounds, is a Skeena catch. August is the best month to fish this river for steelhead. For details or inquiries contact:

Situk River
The Situk River in Yakutat, Alaska, yields steelhead in a secluded pristine environment. You should hire a guide who knows the area. The Three Rivers
True to its name, this is where the Sol Duc, Bogachiel and Calawah rivers all feed into each other. It is located on the Pacific side of the Olympic National Forest, in the state of Washington. Even if you have poor luck at one river, you can try the other two with minimal effort. This region is known to supply anglers with world-class steelhead. The Rogue River
The Rogue River on the coast of Oregon is open for fishing 12 months a year. Fishing from a boat is the method of choice, and anglers can expect their catch to be between 7 and 18 pounds on average. If you are not familiar with the area it is highly recommended that you hire a guide with a boat to ensure you get the most out of your trip.
