Oregon and the American West offer an ideal combination of nature, sophistication and leisure. You can go whale watching, taste some fine wines, head up to the mountains for snow or just head to the
beach. Because of the diverse climate offered along the West Coast, you have a multitude of reasons to travel there.
Whale Watching
The West Coast boasts some of the best whale watching sites in the U.S. From late December through March, the grey whales make a majestic procession just off the Oregon coast line.
Wine
Though not as well-known as Napa and Sonoma (California's wine regions), Oregon offers some delicious varietals grown in the Willamette Valley. The Willamette Valley offers 200 wineries and tasting rooms; it is considered one of the best producers of Pinot Noir in the U.S.
Hiking
Oregon is a hiker's paradise. The Oregon Coast Trail is a 350-mile trail that covers the entire coastline of the state. California offers Yosemite Valley, a national park nearly unparalleled in its beauty.

The Pac-10 conference is one of the most competitive in the U.S. You can watch great college games for almost any sport at any campus.
Snow Sports
Oregon, California and Washington offer snow enthusiasts opportunities to try small, community-based facilities or former Olympic facilities, such as Squaw Valley in California's Tahoe Region.
