Sun City is located about two hours by car from Johannesburg in South
Africa. It is one of the leading theme
resorts in the world. Whether you're looking for great golf courses, gambling, live entertainment for all family members, water parks or game park adventures, Sun City has it all.
History of Sun City
The founder of Sun City was Sol Kerzner, a South African born in the 1930s who built the first hotel on the location in 1979. Although originally focusing on adult entertainment, Sun City has since become a favorite vacation spot for families. The Sun City resort has won many awards such as Africa's Leading Resort award presented at the World Travel Awards in 2008 and the Africa's Leading Family Resort award presented at the World Travel Awards in 2009.
Where to Stay
There are four hotels in Sun City. The Palace of the Lost City is the most elaborately decorated with painted ceilings and themed rooms, all displaying the best of African art. At Cascades Hotel you can find luxury and relaxation amidst an elegant natural garden. The Sun City Hotel is the ideal place for adults to party with casinos, live shows and nightclubs galore. Finally, the Cabanas Hotel is the ultimate family getaway, situated next to gardens and the Sun City Lake, and with Cabanas of different sizes to accommodate all families.
Entertainment in Sun City
There's enough entertainment in Sun City to keep you busy for much longer than any average vacation time. Nightclubs, theater, water parks, casinos, animal rides and live performances represent only some of the entertainment. Sun City is known to host everything from beauty pageants to business conferences. Sun City also claims two of the best golf courses in South Africa. The Valley of the Waves is a favorite in Sun City featuring a luxurious lagoon that generates waves up to 1.8 meters tall. You can also enjoy an abundance of water slides and a lazy river.
Entertainment around Sun City
Sun City is also surrounded by Pilanesberg National Park, 136,000 acres of the African wild, where you can safari hunt for the Big 5 (elephant, rhino, leopard, lion and buffalo) in a malaria-free zone. While Pilanesberg has hotels within its park, many choose to stay in Sun City since the two hot spots are connected.
