As soon as the weather turns a bit warm and school is out for the summer, the whole family feels the need to get away. There is no better place to relax and soak up some salty sea water and summer sun than on a sandy beach. Choose a kid-friendly location when planning that summer beach vacation and the whole family will be happy.
Cocoa Beach, Florida

Where else can you find surf camp for the kids? They teach children as young as 6 years old. The beaches are wide and rock free, making it a great location for kids to dig in the sand, make sand castles and splash in several shallow wading areas. Enjoy other attractions and activities in and around Cocoa Beach, such as the Kennedy Space Center, the Brevard Zoo or an eco tour.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach has 60 miles of warm sandy shoreline for kids and their families to enjoy. Teach your kids to fish. It's good to know that there is no license required for fishing on the beach or at any of the several piers available. Just show caution when there are surfers or swimmers in your vicinity. Little ones will enjoy the warm sea water to splash in. It's 85 degrees F during July and August. However, the water and weather are perfect from late spring to early fall.

San Diego, California

Sand Diego offers so many unique beaches, you could visit a different one every day. July through September are the best beach months in this southern California city. The best beach resort for kids in San Diego is Loews Coronado Bay Resort. They have a kid's club program that offers an outdoor marshmallow roast, pizza-making workshops and live animal shows. They even have programs for tiny tots.

Wailea Beach, Maui

Wailea Beach in Hawaii is one of the best beaches for kids. Its waters are calm with low, light waves that are just right for kids to snorkel and swim. Restrooms and showers are available, close by on the paved boardwalk. If your vacation schedule is between December and April, the kids will love watching for whales. Wailea Beach is a location known for spotting these gentle giants.

Gold Beach, Oregon

Gold Beach is located on the southern Oregon coast where the Rogue River joins the Pacific Ocean. This is called the banana belt of the Pacific Northwest. It's the perfect location for the family with kids who love the outdoors. There are lots of hiking trails and horseback riding for the little explorers and their families. There's fishing and camping, too. This area of the West coast is less crowded, with wide open beaches to walk the family dog and throw a Frisbee or fly a kite.
