Whether you are a first-time cruiser or a seasoned veteran, cruising the Mediterranean is a great option if you desire variety during your vacation. With stops on your itinerary that allow you to enjoy ancient history, world class art and cuisine and fun in the sun, you are sure to have a spectacular experience.
Types
Although the exact definitions may vary slightly between cruise lines, most companies offer an Eastern and Western Mediterranean itinerary. Additionally, many cruise lines offer a Holy Land cruise or include stops in the Holy Land on their Eastern or Western itineraries.
Length
The length of a Mediterranean cruise primarily depends on the size of the cruise line. Small local cruise companies offer two- to seven-day cruises, while larger cruise lines with a worldwide presence typically offer longer cruises that last between 10 and 14 days.
Ports of Call
Passengers that cruise the Mediterranean have a chance to enjoy rich culture in history in more than 60 cruise ports in the Mediterranean. Some of the more frequented stops in the Mediterranean are Barcelona, Athens, Civitavecchia (Rome), Alexandria and Monaco.
Cruise Lines
Multiple cruise lines operate Mediterranean cruises. Some of the most popular cruise companies that operate Mediterranean cruises are Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Windstar, Crystal Cruises, Carnival, Norwegian Cruise Line, Cunard and Costa Cruises.
Best Time to Go
If you are headed to the Mediterranean to soak up the sun, you will want to travel during the warmest part of the year, which is from May to October. If you are more interested in bargain prices and visiting ports of call, you will want to travel during the off-peak winter months.
