How to Swim With Dolphins in Barbados

Barbados is an ideal place to vacation for ocean and beach lovers, as well as people who wish to swim with dolphins. It is simple to find many tours and services to help you swim with dolphins, whether you are vacationing as a family, a couple or a group of friends. It is not legal in Barbados to have separated pools or areas of the ocean where dolphins are kept, so you need to sign up for snorkel and scuba-diving tours that take you to highly concentrated areas of dolphins.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step 1

Inquire at your hotel about swim-with-dolphin tours. Many hotels in Barbados offer discounts with other packages, such as snorkeling included with a tour of areas where dolphins often swim. Two Barbados hotels that offer very reasonable dolphin swimming packages include Barbados Beach Club and Discovery Bay Hotel.

Step 2

Book your dolphin swimming tours or activities in advance, so you won't have to wait in long lines or find out that tours convenient for you are already booked. Look online (see "Resources") to book full-day tours of snorkeling or scuba diving. Children can book for about half the price of adults.

Step 3

Look at places in Barbados if you did not book in advance. Barbados Blue resort offers free snorkel lessons with all equipment included, and will help lead you to several good sites.

Step 4

Go on a scuba-diving or snorkeling tour specific to areas populated by dolphins. If you want to try to swim with dolphins on your own, go to the scuba-diving rental shop and ask what the best areas are. Explore the Folkstone Marine Park, which has its own artificial coral reef, to get used to snorkeling on your own, and then try the Recreational Zone, which leads to a deep-water reef that half a mile out in the ocean.
