Skimboarders carve in the shallows
If you're taking a vacation to a seaside location, try skimboarding. In this fun recreational activity, you slide a thin board along the shallows of the tide and skim along the water. An experienced rider can carve out and ride into deeper waters; new riders can still enjoy simply riding the shallow water and the wet sand.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step 1
Hold the skimboard on your dominant side, with your dominant hand on the back of the board, and your non-dominant hand on the non-dominant side of the board.
Step 2
Lower the board to your side near the sand as you run perpendicular to the water line.
Step 3
Gently toss the board in front of you in the sand and shallow water.
Step 4
Mount the board by running onto it. Do not jump on the board with two feet at once, or it will dig into the sand and you will fall.
Step 5
Position your feet perpendicular to the direction of the board, with your shoulders pointing in the direction of the board.
Step 6
Carve, or turn, the board by moving pressure toward your toes or heels.
