Keep your hotel bed free of bed bugs.
Keep your hotel bed free of bed bugs.
Bed bugs are creepy little bugs that do not have wings. Many people never even know that bed bugs are invading their bed and feasting on them while they are fast asleep. Even if you have made every effort to assure that you are safe while at home, can you make the same guarantee while you are at a hotel?

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You'll Need:
  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic bags
Step 1

Look very carefully for any indication that bed bugs might be present when you are at a hotel. Do this as soon as you arrive in your hotel room. Look for signs of dead bed bugs, small blood spots on sheets or blankets, bug skins and live bugs.

Step 2

Inspect places like bedding, underneath and inside drawers, closet shelves, carpet edges and around headboards for signs of bed bugs. Check everywhere within 5 feet of any bed.

Step 3

Inform hotel management if you find any signs that bed bugs may be present. Remember that sending you to another hotel room does not mean that you are free from these tiny bugs. Conduct another thorough inspection.

Step 4

Inspect your luggage thoroughly before you depart. Carefully look through each item for any signs of bed bugs before placing it in your suitcase or bags.

Step 5

Wash all clothing in hot water and laundry soap. Follow with drying in the dryer for a minimum of 20 minutes on medium to high heat. Then put all items that are newly laundered in a sealed plastic bag to assure that you do not bring any bed bugs back with you.
