Santa Monica surf
The hotel Casa Del Mar has been housing guests traveling to California's "Gold Coast" since 1926. The hotel has been referred to as the "Grand Dame" of the Santa Monica shores.
History
From its inception, the Casa Del Mar was a hot spot for Hollywood luminaries such as silent film star Theda Bara. When the Great Depression began, most Santa Monica beach resorts had to close their doors, but the Casa Del Mar was able to ride out the economic downturn.
Accommodations
The Casa Del Mar has a variety of rooms, including Presidential and Penthouse suites. All rooms feature at least one king-size bed, and the suites have two bedrooms as well as a spacious living area.
Rates
A hotel for the rich
Tailored to the very rich visitors that traditionally stay on the Gold Coast, the Casa Del Mar's room rates begin on the high end. The deluxe room, which is the least expensive, goes for $430 a night as of March 2010, while the Penthouse suite costs more than $2,000 a night and the Presidential rents for more than $3,000 per night.
Amenities
The Casa Del Mar offers extravagant rooms with Italian marble bathrooms and hypnotherapy bathtubs. The room also has a big-screen television, CD and DVD players and a fully stocked mini-bar. Free high-speed Internet data ports are also in every room.
Dining
The Casa Del Mar has an on-site restaurant named Catch, which has lunch and dinner menus prepared by a gourmet chef. Seasonal dishes such as warm flatbread and pasta dishes are the restaurant's specialty. The on-site lounge known as The Veranda serves light meals and specializes in drinks and desserts.
Event Planning
The Casa Del Mar has three staff members who are specifically dedicated to helping guests carry out successful business meetings as well as elegant weddings. Catering is done by the hotel's restaurant, and the meeting room is equipped with free wireless Internet access.
