A basic set of snorkel gear consists of a clear mask, a snorkel and a pair of fins. When a swimmer uses this gear, the equipment is exposed to salt water, sand and saliva. If the snorkeling equipment isn't cleaned off after a trip, it can get a crusty salt buildup as the seawater dries. Fortunately, cleaning snorkel gear is not difficult.
Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need:
- Dish soap
Toothpaste
Water
Towel
Box
Bag

- Bag
Step 1
Apply mild dish soap or a dab of toothpaste to the inside of your mask. Rub it around to coat the mask.
Step 2
Hold the mask under running water and rub the inside with your fingers until all the toothpaste or soap is gone.
Step 3
Wash the front and sides of the mask with soap and water if they look dirty. Otherwise, you can just rinse them under water.
Step 4
Rinse the snorkel and fins in either clear water or mildly soapy water. Use your fingers to remove any sand caked on to them. Pay special attention to the insides of the fins because dirt can get lodged in there.
Step 5
Dry everything with a towel and store it in a dry location where it won't gather dust. Keeping your snorkel gear in a box or bag is a good way to keep it clean.
