Planning a wedding can be difficult. But if you've narrowed the location down to Savannah, Georgia, you'll at least have the benefit of one of the most gracious and interesting settings in the nation. By following some tips on venues, florists and caterers, you can increase the odds that your big day in Savannah, Georgia, will be a success.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step 1
Confirm your guest count. The size of your wedding will determine how much of everything you'll need, from the size of the event space to adequate seating to the proper amount of food and libations required.
Step 2
Consider the seasons. The most popular months for weddings---June, July and August---are the hottest, most humid months in Savannah. Keep this in mind, especially if you're planning an outdoor reception. The spring months, from March through May, are less humid. However, they are popular tourist months, so accommodations for your guests may be scarce and more expensive than during the quiet months like November, when prices drop and the weather cools.
Step 3
Choose a venue. This historic, distinctly southern town offers a range of event spaces, including waterfront resorts, landmark buildings and museum gardens. For example, the Mansion on Forsyth Park is an elegant indoor space that can accommodate up to 230 guests, while Vic's on the River offers views of the Savannah River, Hutchinson Island and Talmadge Memorial Bridge. If you want to be closer to the water, The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf resort & Spa not only provides indoor and outdoor wedding options, but relaxing spa packages for the bride-to-be and a golf course for the groom.
Step 4
Decide on a caterer. Your chosen venue may offer catering services, but if the food is not up to your standards, look for other alternatives. Barnes Catering at (912) 355-3850, Big Water Catering and Events at (912) 629-2635 and Creekside Catering at (912) 272-3289 are just a few of the wedding caterers available locally.
Step 5
Find a florist. Whether you prefer fresh or fake, flowers are a wedding must. The Pampered Bride Boutique at (912) 856-4980 specializes in custom wedding bouquets, while Savannah Event Decor at (912) 856-4980 provides silk centerpieces.
Step 6
Hire a local photographer. A wedding is a milestone occasion, and you want to hire a photographer that will provide you with pictures you can treasure. Hiring a photographer who lives in the vicinity saves travel expenses. These photography websites are based in Savannah: www.allisonreiszphotography.com, www.hillisphoto.com and www.lynbonhamphotography.com.
