How to Renew a Belize Passport

Belize is a small country on the Caribbean coast of Central America. Belizean nationals who wish to travel internationally must have a valid passport in their possession. Renewing a Belize passport is possible in Belize as well as several cities around the world, including locations on several continents. Passport renewal forms are conveniently located online from both the government of Belize's website and the Belizean embassy in Washington D.C. (see Resources).

These include the Belize Embassy in Washington D.C., the Permanent Mission of Belize to the U.N. located in New York City and the Consulate General of Belize in Los Angeles. If you cannot renew your passport in person at one of these locations, you must contact the embassy in Washington to apply for a 12-month extension to your current passport.

Step 2

Download the passport application form from either the Belizean government's website or the Embassy website. The application form is the same, regardless of where you are located or if you are renewing a Belizean passport or are applying for a first-time document.

Step 3

Fill out the passport application with a blue or black ballpoint pen to ensure prompt processing. All information should be written in English, as English is the official language of Belize.

Step 4

Record your expired Belize passport number on the application form, and send your expired passport with the application as a form of identification. Married women must also produce a certified copy of their marriage certificate.

Step 5

Include cash payment for application fees. As of April 2009, the fees for normal processing of a Belizean passport is $30 USD. Normal processing time varies if you are living outside of Belize. Those who apply within the country can expect to receive their passports within 2 to 3 weeks.

Bring your completed application for a Belize passport to the nearest Immigration and Passport Office. Offices are located in Belize City, Belmopan, San Pedro, Orange Walk, Corazol, Punta Gorda and Dangriga in Belize. Those living outside the country may choose from Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., Taipei, London or Panama City as their processing office.
