Packing Lists for Detroit, Michigan

When you visit Detroit, you'll want to explore Greenfield Village, the Detroit Zoo or see your favorite sports team play live. You may also enjoy the nightlife and gambling at the casinos. When packing for Detroit, consider the weather and pack comfortable clothes, jackets and shoes. Also include some special team sports gear and extra money for the casinos. Remember to pack your camera to capture your memories of Detroit.
Clothing for All Weather

While Detroit does have very distinct seasons, often it does become cool in the summer and warms up earlier in the winter than expected. Pack according to the season and make sure you have plenty of comfortable sweatshirts, jeans and walking shoes for exploring the heart of Detroit. There is much to see while walking around the Detroit Zoo and Greenfield Village, so make sure your feet are comfortable. You may also want to pack some nicer garments, like dress pants or a dress if you choose to dine at a fancier restaurant such as Mario's Italian Restaurant downtown.

Sports Paraphernalia

If you come to Detroit to see one of your favorite sports teams play live--be it the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers or the Detroit Pistons--come decked out in sports t-shirts and hats, and wave flags in honor of your favorite player as you enjoy the game.

Cameras

Bring your digital camera to record memories of family activities at the Detroit Zoo or attending the hockey game. However, a film camera, with black and white film, will truly capture the beauty of some of Detroit's older buildings, such as the Fox Theatre.

Money

Detroit is home to several casinos, including Greektown Casino in the heart of Detroit, so if you are planning to enjoy the nightlife in Greektown, bring along some extra cash. You will need it at the card tables as well as the slot machines and if you choose to partake of any of Greektown's restaurants, such as Fishbones.

Pain Medication

In downtown Detroit, there are not many corner pharmacies, so in addition to any regular medication you may need, pack first-aid supplies such as Tylenol or Advil and Band-aids to carry in a purse or back-pack in case someone gets a headache or a blister forms from walking.
