How to Pack for a Cruise to Canada

How to Pack for a Cruise to Canada
How to Pack for a Cruise to Canada
There are two main routes that major cruise lines take that include stops in Canada. The first is when ships cruise to Alaska, although not all cruise lines do stop in Canada when taking this route. The second is when ships cruise up the East Coast to New England and Canada. Both are popular choices for a cruise. The New England cruise is especially popular during the autumn season due to the brilliant displays of fall foliage. Whichever cruise you choose, make sure you enjoy it to the fullest by packing everything you will need for your trip!

Step 1

Pack for the weather. Most cruises to Canada travel through cool weather. Even summer Alaskan cruises can get downright chilly. Rainy conditions are common. Pack an umbrella, a raincoat and sturdy, waterproof boots if you are planning on going on a shore excursion.

Step 2

Bring lots of film. You are going to see a lot of stunning scenery. While this is true for all cruises, it is most apparent in cruises to Canada and New England, which feature a lot of rocks, craggy cliffs and fall colors if traveling in the fall, and Canada to Alaska, where icebergs will tower majestically over your ship.

Step 3

Pack Canadian currency. It is a lot easier and cheaper to change currencies before you leave than wasting time trying to do it during your shore excursion.

Step 4

Pack your passport in an easily accessible place in your luggage. Although you do not need a passport if your cruise is a closed-loop cruise (leaving from and returning to the same United States port), you might need one if you are going to disembark anywhere in Canada along the way. In addition, be sure to check with your cruise line for specific requirements regarding proper identification.

Step 5

Pack sunglasses and sunscreen. While you might not think of this as something you would pack for a cruise to Canada, it is a fact that sunlight reflecting off of ice and snow can be blinding. You want to be able to see the whales without squinting at them!
