How to Obtain a Tourist Visa for Brazil
While you probably know that you will need a passport to travel to a foreign country, you may not know that some countries also require a tourist visa for entry. Brazil is one of these countries. There are some specific details you will need to be aware of in order to complete the process. Follow these steps and you'll have the necessary travel documents in time for your upcoming trip.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Things You'll Need:
  • Current passport Visa application form 2-by-2-inch passport photo Trip itinerary Application processing fee
  • Current passport
  • Visa application form
  • 2-by-2-inch passport photo
  • Trip itinerary
  • Application processing fee
Step 1

Determine which Consular office in the United States has jurisdiction over your state. You can find this at brasilemb.org (see Resources below). This is the office you will need to send your application to or visit in person to submit your documents.

Step 2

Check your passport to make sure it will not expire within the next 6 months. It needs to be current with at least one empty page available.

Step 3

Print the visa application form from the brasilemb.org website, and fill it out completely.

Step 4

Obtain a current 2-by-2-inch passport photo. It is best to get the photo from a place that specifically offers passport photos, such as the photo department of many drugstore chains.

Step 5

Print a copy of your airline ticket itinerary that states your name. This copy should show the dates and flights you will be taking into and out of Brazil.

Step 6

Plan to pay the current application processing fee in U.S. dollars. The forms of payment accepted vary between Consular offices, so double check to see if you can pay by credit card or if you will need a money order.

Step 7

Combine your passport, the application form, the application fee, picture and copy of your itinerary, and mail or deliver it to the Consular office that has jurisdiction over your state.
