Garmin Zumo 550
The Garmin Zumo 550 GPS is targeted for motorcycle riders and features text to speech, Bluetooth connectivity, an MP3 Player, SD memory card reader, more than 6,000 points of interest, automatic rerouting, and a removable faceplate for customizing the look. It has a 3 1/2-inch 320 x 240 LCD screen, automatic daytime and nighttime color switching, 2-D and 3-D view, and a responsive touch screen. The Zumo 550 also includes a mounting kit for motorcycle or scooter handlebars. IT also comes with a car window or dash mount. It comes with the mounts, an AC adapter, power cable, car power adapter, carrying case and retails for $899 as of September 2009.
Perks
The Garmin Zumo has an easy-to use GUI with loads of great features. The Bluetooth connection integrates well for motorcyclists with in-helmet Bluetooth earpieces. The text-to-speech feature gives voice-guided turn-by-turn directions and street names. In case you have missed your turn, this GPS will automatically reroute to get you back on track quickly.
Sacrifices
The price is the biggest drawback. While it does have many advanced features, paying $899 for the unit is a bit much compared with other GPS devices with similar functions. The 3 1/2-inch screen is too small for such an expensive GPS.
Bottom Line
The Zumo 550 is a hardy GPS with excellent performance. While the features are great and it's easy to use, it is way too expensive to justify buying one.
