Visitors from around the world travel to the island of Puerto Rico, which is made up of one main island and smaller surrounding isles in the Caribbean Sea. The country is most commonly visited by Americans, followed by Mexican, Venezuelan, Dominican, European and Asian tourists.
Features
Many tourists are drawn to Puerto Rico for its unique combination white sand beaches, mountains and rain forest. Tourists also enjoy the tropical island nation's eternal summer with sunny temperatures all year long.
Significance
For decades, tourism has been a vital industry for the economic well-being of Puerto Rico, as tens of thousands of tourists pour into the country annually to spend their money.
Considerations
There are seven airports in Puerto Rico, with Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan the main airport for international travelers. Other visitors access Puerto Rico via cruise ship.

Tourists from the United States do not need a passport nor a visa to travel to Puerto Rico, since the Caribbean nation is an official U.S. territory.
