About Nice Things to Do in San Francisco

For a relatively small city, San Francisco offers plenty of sights and activities. It is a popular, year-round tourist destination; you'll never be short of nice things to do in San Francisco. The Embarcadero along the bay offers many excursions and activities; a ride on the historic cable car is a must; and Chinatown gives visitors a glimpse into the historical and cultural importance of the city's large Chinese and Chinese-American population.
On the Bay

When in San Francisco a boat tour on the bay is a must. An Alcatraz ticket includes admission to the island, a self-guided tour and the boat trip to and from the island. Look out for boat trips offered for a low cost by captains along Fisherman's Wharf. They will take you underneath Golden Gate Bridge for an entirely different perspective on the spectacular landmark. After a boat trip, wander along Fisherman's Wharf near Pier 39 and watch the seafood vendors sell their wares before deciding upon your favorite one for lunch.

Cable Car

Much of San Francisco's charm lies in its steep hilly streets and the quaint houses almost impossibly perched upon them. At the top of each hill there are magnificent views, and the best way to experience these sights without strenuous walking is on the iconic cable car. Not only is hanging off the side of the cable car as it is winched and released up and down the hills a memorable experience, the cable car crosses from one side of the city to the other and is a handy form of public transportation.

Chinatown

San Francisco has the largest Chinese population in the world outside of China, and the size of the city's Chinatown reflects the importance of this group. Shop in Chinatown, sample exotic fruits and vegetables and ducks hanging in storefront windows, and visit restaurants for a taste of China. You may come across a restaurant featuring live fish for you to choose from for your dinner.
