London Travel Tips
London is one of the most popular tourist cities in
Europe. It is a great destination for families, couples and singles with lots of museums, castles, cathedrals and theaters. It is also home to Harrods, one of the largest and most luxurious department stores in the world, for those who wish to take a break from sightseeing.
Hotels
In general, European hotels tend to have rooms smaller than those Americans are used to and London is no different. Many also do not offer air conditioning and there can be some warm summer days. Check for the details of a hotel's room before arriving.
Food
English food has a well-known reputation for being quite bland. Look for great cuisine in many of the ethnic restaurants in London--from Indian to Mediterranean and everything in between.
Best time to travel
Spring and fall are the best times to travel and avoid the crowds. Thanksgiving is actually an excellent weekend to get some bargains as it's certainly not a holiday celebrated in England.
Weary Weather
There doesn't seem to be a time to go to London for good weather. It can be rainy and cool--even in July--so be prepared with a jacket and umbrella at all times of year.
Tennis, anyone?
Wimbledon, one of four Grand Slam tennis events in the world, is played just outside of London from the end of June through the beginning of July. For the tennis fan it is a great treat, but for the non-tennis lover it means more crowds and less accessibility to hotels in London.
