Kids Activities in Michigan
Visitors often choose to take family
vacations to Michigan because there are several attractions for children. These attractions include a combined amusement and water park, a zoo with special events and a historical museum and village.
Michigan's Adventure
Michigan's Adventure in Muskegon, Michigan, houses both an amusement park and a water park, Wildwater Adventures. The park recommends families bring a few changes of clothing because the water park requires all guests wear swimsuits and children under 48 inches wear life jackets. In the amusement park side, children can ride several kid-friendly attractions, such as Mini-enterprise, where they ride in helicopters in a circular motion, or the Big Dipper, the family roller coaster, in which children must be 3 feet tall to ride with a parent or 42 inches to ride alone. On the water park side, children also have several options for fun, starting with an interactive water playground with slides and a tree house at Jolly Roger and Tree House Harbor. Families can also enjoy riding down the 3-foot Lazy River in an innertube.

Binder Park Zoo
Located in Battle Creek, Michigan, this zoo houses several animals from Africa, including the African crowned crane, Grant's zebra and the waterbuck. The zoo also houses a children's section with domestic animals, such as horses, birds and pigs. Families can ride the Wilderness Tram to Africa as many times as they want for free, and they can ride the Binda Conservation Carousel for a fee. Every weekend the zoo is open, it runs a different special event, be it a play day for an animal species, where families can observe reptiles eat ice cream on a hot day, or a program on how wolves interact to learn that the myths from fairy tales are incorrect. Families can also feed the giraffes.

Greenfield Village and Henry Field Museum
Located in Dearborn, Michigan, this historical favorite entices families because parents can show their children a piece of history while making the trip fun. Children especially enjoy observing and interacting with the historic districts in the village, such as the working farms, which demonstrate how people lived in the 19th century traveling by covered wagons, growing crops and raising livestock. Families will also appreciate seeing how Henry Ford invented the first Model T car. On weekends throughout the summer, families can watch historic baseball teams play the game according to the 19th-century rules. In the museum, children enjoy exploring the Heroes of the Sky exhibit, which follows the historic people and planes of the last hundred years. At Christmastime, families come to see Holiday Nights in the village as the entire village is lit up and live performers and old-fashioned carriage rides.
