About International Calling Cards
International calling cards allows you to keep in touch with your family and friends abroad and can be used anywhere. The costs of international phone calls often deter people from directly dialing from their landline. For some, international calling cards are the only option because their phones don't have access to international dialing.
Cost
International calling cards are prepaid, which allows you to control your telephone costs. Usually, these cards are available in ranges from $10-$200. These cards are "rechargeable," which means you can add more money to buy more minutes, lengthening your call time.
Use
Most international calling cards come with access numbers and PINs printed on them. To use the card inside or outside the country you bought it in, dial the access number and enter the PIN when prompted.
Buying
You can buy phone cards at ethnic markets and restaurants, as well as online. Or you can pay with a credit card online and have the phone card number and pin be sent directly to you.
Connection Fee
Look for an international calling card with no connection fee. Connection fees range from a few cents to $1, which can dramatically decrease your balance every time you dial a number and make a call.
Maintenance Fee
Maintenance fees are additional costs to your international calling card that decreases your balance on the card. These fees are under the discretion of the calling-card company and can subtract $1-$2 per day, even if you are not using the card.
