Fort Worth is known as "Cowtown," but don't worry. Not everyone wears Wranglers, boots and a cowboy hat. There are plenty of stores in town to help you pick out the perfect cowboy attire. However, as a tourist, make sure to pack clothes that are cool and comfortable for sightseeing. Summer temperatures often hover between 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with little relief. Bring items to protect against the sun and soothe in case of a sunburn.
Clothing
Visiting Fort Worth in the summer can be outright hot. Plan to wear cool clothing such as shorts, t-shirts or sundresses. Pack light colored clothing and breathable fabrics. Sightseeing during the day is hot and sweaty. Bring a change of clothes for an evening on town. Most places in Fort Worth are casual. Don't forget to pack your swimsuit. Several lakes around the Fort Worth area provide a nice relief from the summer heat. Spring and fall temperatures remain warm, but occasional showers can dampen outside plans. Carrying an umbrella and bringing a light jacket or sweater for cool morning or evening temperatures is recommended. Snow and severe winter weather is rare in Fort Worth. Pack pants, long-sleeved shirts and sweaters.
Protection
The summer sun can be brutal in Fort Worth. Make sure to pack sunblock to protect against the rays. Consider bringing sunglasses, a hat and protective clothing. Include aloe vera lotion in case of a sunburn. Purchase water bottles to put in your bag while sightseeing. These help you stay hydrated during the hot summer months. Water bottles are easy to refill during the day or for the next day's adventures. Consider packing a raincoat or umbrella for a quick summer shower or rain during the spring or fall. Bring a scarf, gloves and a hat to protect against cold winter weather.
Shoes
Areas of Fort Worth are very pedestrian friendly so pack a comfortable pair of walking shoes. The Museum district, The Stockyards and the Square are easily navigable by walking. Consider taking a quick cab ride from one spot to the next. If you're planning a night on the town, pack a pair of nice shoes as some bars and clubs have dress codes. Many places allow casual wear such as flip-flops or open toed shoes. If traveling during the winter make sure to pack only closed toed shoes.
