Dining at Walt Disney World is an event. While planning your Disney vacation, you will want to take some time to consider your dining options and needs. The extensively themed restaurants are designed to be as family friendly as they are entertaining. The cuisines offered range from the traditional fast food fare that you will find at Pecos Bill's in Frontierland to the exquisite offerings at Victoria and Albert's at the Grand Floridian resort.
Character Dining

Character dining can be the highlight of any Walt Disney World vacation for both children and grown ups. Have your cameras handy, because favorite Disney characters greet every guest at the restaurant, and they will stay at your table long enough for pictures and autographs.

Character dining experiences are quite varied. They are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner; although not all character dining locations have characters at each setting. Early character breakfast reservations inside Disney's theme parks can even help you gain park access prior to its opening.

Mickey and other members of the Fab Five can be found at Chef Mickey's, which is located in the Contemporary resort. Pooh and the whole gang from the Hundred Acre Wood are in the Magic Kingdom, at the end of Main Street U.S.A. In Epcot's Norway Pavilion, girls of all ages will find the Princess Storybook Dining at Aukershus Royal Banquet Hall to be a delight. Little girls will want to come dressed as their favorite princess for this special meal.

Table Service

When you need to take a break from the park action and take a load off of your tired feet for a while, table service dining is a fabulous way to have a great meal. The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater offers traditional American cuisine with a Disney twist. Your table is actually a vintage convertible. To complete the drive-in scene, there are vintage B-flick movies playing on a giant movie screen.

Buffets are another great way to accommodate even the pickiest eaters in your party. They can also satisfy the big hunger guests work up while logging miles in the parks. Epcot's Biergarten Restaurant in the Germany Pavilion of the World Showcase offers traditional Oktoberfest fare -- such as bratwurst and spaetzle -- while German musicians provide diners with authentic entertainment.

Quick Service Dining

Quick Service dining, otherwise known as counter service, gets you happily fed and back to your park experience. Quick service dining at Walt Disney World is not all hamburgers and French fries, although you can get those, too.

The Columbia Harbour House is located near the Haunted Mansion in the Magic Kingdom. It offers diners fresh vegetarian options, such as hummus and tomato sandwiches and vegetarian chili.

Special Event Dining

In the mood for some entertainment with your meal? From the long-running Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue at the Campsites at Fort Wilderness to Disney's Spirit of Aloha at the Polynesian resort, there is something for everyone and every palate.

Special event dining at Walt Disney World is far more than just dinner and a show, although the shows are fabulous. Disney dining cast members will be happy to answer all of your questions about this event and make reservations for this or any other dining experience.

Some dining experiences can also help you gain access to priority seating at shows and fireworks displays. Lunch at Animal Kingdom's Tusker House, an all-you-can-eat buffet, grants you and your party priority seating at the afternoon showing of "Finding Nemo: the Musical." Times change seasonally, so check with Disney dining services for times and availability.

Reservations

It is strongly recommended that you book advanced dining reservations, known as ADRs in Disney lingo, for any character dining and table service restaurants you want to visit. You can book your reservation 180 days in advance. A Disney cast member will assist you in booking reservations. Disney dining is also renowned for its ability to accommodate the special dietary needs of its guests. Be sure to communicate any special needs of any member of your party, and you and your family will have a magical dining experience.
