With the Chesapeake Bay's brackish water providing the perfect habitat for the blue crab, visitors and locals get to enjoy a wide variety of festivals celebrating the Maryland state crustacean.

Crab season is June to October. Local municipalities and organizations throughout Maryland hold their own crab festivals, so if you are planning to visit the state check for events in your area.

The scientific name of the Blue Crab, Callinectes sapidus, means "beautiful swimmer that is savory."

Annual St. Mary's County Crab Festival
For over 20 years, this festival has celebrated the Blue Crab's influence on the county's economy, cooking and culture.
Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast
Billed as "Annapolis' biggest summer event & best darn crab feast in the world," this annual event has been a summer staple for over 60 years. The 2008 Crab Feast raised $70,000 for local charities and non-profit groups.
