Carnival Conquest Cruise Ship Review

The Carnival Conquest sails from Galveston, Texas visiting Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Key West and the Bahamas on alternating seven day Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Launched by Carnival in 2002 and refurbished in 2005, this 110,000 ton mega-ship sails with 2,974 passengers.

The Conquest features 13 decks of staterooms and amenities, offering everything from relaxing spa treatments to Broadway-style shows. There are 22 bars and lounges, four pools, seven whirlpools, sports courts, a casino, youth center, fitness center, multiple restaurants and a seaside theater.
Wows and Woes

Staterooms on Carnival ships are some of the largest in the industry, and even the smallest interior room is still 185 square feet. Outside staterooms are at least 220 square feet, with suites being larger. All rooms offer ample storage.

Woes
The design of the Conquest class ships can be confusing since deck three has no through passage.
In order to get from one end of the ship to the other, you must change decks.

Insider Tips

For those who would like to relax in a quiet whirlpool, visit the fitness center. Beautifully decorated and never crowded, this hot tub overlooks the workout area.

Sur Mer, a seafood eatery on the second tier of the Cezanne Restaurant, offers delicious fish and chips with minimal wait times. There are lots of tables and no crowds.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

Since the ocean was rough on our day in Grand Cayman, we had to skip this port. The Conquest staff quickly dispersed new information about shipboard activities and events in lieu of our port day. I was disappointed to miss Grand Cayman, but impressed with how the crew handled the situation.

Bottom Line

This ship offers top-notch amenities at a bargain price, with cruises starting at under $500 per person.
