Overview
Porches on the James offers modern comfort in a classic style. Built in 1998 to resemble a Savannah River house, this home of Jane and Greg Kilduff provides guests with four spacious bedrooms, each with a private bath. Views of the James River at Burwell's Bay invite visitors to sit on the screened porch and listen to birds and the river. Furnishings include antiques, handcrafted furniture from a local cabinet maker, and a variety of art, including the work of regional artists. A full breakfast is served to overnight guests in the dining room and occasionally on the screened porch. The three breakfast may include seasonal fruit, Smithfield and Surry smoked meats, freshly baked breads from the Porches kitchen, savory side dishes, and tantalizing, freshly ground coffee, or a choice of teas. Guests may enjoy complimentary wine or beer, snacks, and a variety of seasonal beverages between 5 and 6 pm. The hosts will provide information about the excellent dining options in Smithfield and nearby, and they will offer directions to the numerous historic sites in Isle of Wight County and Smithfield.
