In 1999, Williamsburg natives Billy and Sharon Scruggs fulfilled their dream of owning a distinctive Colonial Williamsburg bed and breakfast when they created the Fife & Drum Inn. They had renovated the downtown structure built by Sharon's grandfather, a.w. Hitchens, transforming the second floor into an inviting Williamsburg lodging establishment. The Scruggs' inn celebrates both Williamsburg's importance in American history and the 20th century experiences of the Hitchens family. Each room of the inn celebrates an aspect of the town and contains memorabilia relating to the history of Williamsburg.
