romantic getaways. Facing the Gulf of
Mexico, this luxury resort is also part of a nature preserve on the island, acting as a sanctuary to a variety of native species.
History
According to CasaYbelResort.com, the resort was originally founded by the Barnes family in 1889. Its members were sailing in the Gulf of Mexico and crashed into the site.
Features
Casa Ybel Resort has 114 rooms on 23 acres of property, facing the Gulf of Mexico. All rooms are one- to two-bedroom suites.
Considerations
The resort hosts numerous weddings, anniversary celebrations and business conferences each year. Residents and visitors of the island often eat at the on-site restaurant, the Thistle Lodge.
Location
The Casa Ybel Resort is located on the southern end of Sanibel Island, which is just over the bridge from the neighboring city of Fort Myers. Once over the bridge, stay on Periwinkle Road for a little more than a mile. Take a left onto Casa Ybel Road, ending at 2255 West Gulf Drive.
Rates
As in other parts of South Florida, rates will likely be higher at the resort during the height of tourist season, which runs during the winter months.
