What Should I Pack for a Florida Vacation?
Planning a Florida vacation not only includes deciding on destinations and fun activities, it also requires the foresight to pack the appropriate items for an enjoyable trip. Whether vacationing in the panhandle, taking an airboat ride in the Everglades or scuba diving in the Keys, having the right attire and accessories is essential to the perfect Florida vacation.
Weather

Florida's tropical weather provides ideal temperatures throughout the seasons, which promotes the growth of many flowering trees, plants, shrubs and flower varieties. That means a high concentration of pollen. If you or someone in your family is prone to allergies or has a prescription, pack an adequate supply of allergy medication.

Considerations

Pack sunglasses, hats and visors to protect your face and eyes from the bright Florida sun, extra-large beach towels, mosquito repellent and a good map. Include the carrying case with your camera to protect it from sun and sand.

Attire

Among the benefits of a Florida vacation is that casual dress is allowed at most establishments year-round. Pack comfortable footwear including sandals, sneakers, flip-flops, dress shoes, shorts, bathing suits, cotton slacks and T-shirts. Winter packing should include jeans, corduroy pants, a lined jacket, thick socks, hat and gloves in case the temperature dips.

Prevention/Solution

Intense sunshine can be expected during a Florida summer, and to help prevent sunburn, pack a quality sunscreen with the appropriate SPF level to fend off ultraviolet rays. Even when it's overcast and cloudy, you can get a painful sunburn.

Warning

Florida has an active flea and mosquito population in the warmer months, and if you're bringing your dog or cat, pack any medications, flea treatments or heartworm medication the pet will need.
