What Is Madison Square Garden?

Madison Square Garden really isn't a garden at all, despite the name. The name originated from its 1879 location in Madison Square. MSG advertises itself as "the world's most famous arena." With the variety of entertainment options, Madison Square Garden makes an interesting site to take in a concert or sporting event.
The Gardens

Madison Square Garden is an entertainment complex primarily hosting three distinct groups of diversions: music, comedy and sports.

Current Location

Madison Square Garden withstood four reincarnations beginning with its original location at Madison Square and ending up above Pennsylvania Station, located on 7th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets. It can hold up to 20,000 people, though the exact number varies on the type of event.

Sports

Four sport franchises play at the Garden regularly, though other sports like wrestling and tennis hold events there. They are hockey's New York Rangers, basketball's New York Knicks, the New York Liberty women's basketball team and the National Lacrosse League's New York Titans.

Other Entertainment

On a regular basis, the Garden hosts comedians, dancers, singers and bands such as the Jonas Brothers, Fleetwood Mac and Joaquin Cortes.

Tickets

Interested parties can order tickets for events at Madison Square Garden from their website, from TicketMaster, and onsite at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and the Beacon Theatre Box Office. These are the only entities authorized to sell tickets for any Madison Square Garden event.
