The year-round lush green foliage, colorful flowers and clean air might be the first things you notice about Seattle, Washington. However, the reason citizens of this city enjoy these things is the immense amount of rain that pours down upon them for most of the year. Average annual rain fall is 37 inches. Yet, the summers are dryer and mostly sunny.
Geography

The best way to describe Seattle's geography is "hilly." The city covers Beacon Hill, First Hill, Capital Hill, West Seattle (hill), Queen Ann (hill), Magnolia (hill) and Denny Hill. The hilliest areas are in the center of the city.

Neighborhoods

"A City of Neighborhoods," is what Mayor Greg Nickels called Seattle. His comment is because much of its growth has been through a constant annexation of smaller communities (neighborhoods). This gives Seattle, a city of over 60,000, a small-town, neighborhood feel.

Politics

Seattle is considered to be one of the most liberal cities in American. Even though most citizens might be considered politically left, there is a small growing Libertarian movement.

Education

Over 25 percent of this city's population has earned a bachelor's degree or higher. In fact, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Seattle is the holder of the highest college graduates of any U.S. city.

Real Estate

In the Pacific Northwest, Seattle has always been known to have higher priced real estate. Although the housing market pricing has been reduced, this city still holds very high priced real estate.
