Weekend Getaway Ideas in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is a destination for many vacationers, including weekenders. It is filled with history, mountains, cities and
romantic accommodations. Fortunately, there are a variety of places, probably within a few hours' drive, that will suit the needs of most people.
Inn, Bed and Breakfast, or Spa
Get away for a romantic weekend at one of the many Pennsylvania inns, bed and breakfasts, or spas, many of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. One such place is Tara---A Country Inn, which is a large estate meant to resemble Tara in "Gone With the Wind." While there, enjoy deluxe accommodations and gourmet meals. You can also go to Buhl Mansion Guesthouse & Spa, a large castle north of Pittsburgh. Treat yourself to a massage or just take a walk in the woods. Many rooms have private Jacuzzis as well.

Gettysburg
Soak in a little history while spending the weekend in Gettysburg, located in southeast Pennsylvania. Take a tour of the infamous battlegrounds and surrounding areas by taking a self-guided walking tour, a driving tour with audiotapes or a guided bus tour. You can also visit local wineries, take a train tour through the mountains and go skiing in the winter. There are many different types of accommodations, including hotels, bed and breakfasts, and campgrounds. There are also a variety of restaurants from fast food to fine dining. Visit gettysburg.com for more information.
Pocono Mountains
Bike, camp, kayak, white-water raft, golf and hike; there is much to do in the Pocono Mountains year-round for just about everyone. The Pocono Mountains is in northeast Pennsylvania and has beautiful waterfalls, majestic mountains and 170 miles of twisting rivers. Choose from a plethora of accommodations: condos, camping, inns, cottages, bed and breakfasts, resorts, motels and hotels. Local spas can pamper you after a day outdoors. Dine by a campfire or in a five-star restaurant. Visit 800poconos.com for more information.
Philadelphia
There is more to Philadelphia than the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and cheese steaks. Take a trolley tour to learn about the Underground Railroad and Philadelphia's role. Go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where on Friday nights, live jazz and cocktails make it a more memorable experience. Visit Reading Terminal Market and eat local cuisine and purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to take home. Visit gophila.com and select "Itineraries and Tours" located under the main picture to plan out an itinerary for your weekend getaway.
