Weekend Getaway Ideas in Ohio
Ohio is located on the banks of Lake Erie in the midwest section of the United States. When people think of this state, images of tire factories and cold weather usually are the first things to come to mind. Ohio, however, has a great many wonderful areas that are perfect for relaxing weekend getaways. Whether you are looking for adventure, romance or just relaxation, Ohio is a perfect place to get away for a while.
Lake Erie Shores and Islands

At the northern end of Ohio are the Lake Erie Islands. This area of the state plays host to more than seven million visitors each year, making it one of the most visited areas of the Midwest. The area has over 150 miles of freshwater coastline designed to provide something fun for every member of your family.

The area is home to three distinct islands: Kelley's, Middle Bass and South Bass. Each island offers something different. Kelley's Island is the largest island and has a blend of attractions, nature and history. Middle Bass Island offers a serene environment in a natural setting (this island has a wildlife refuge, perfect for seeing animals in their natural habitat). South Bass is an activity lover's dream with a butterfly house, mini golf, go kart racing, a chocolate museum and scores of other activities.

This area also is home to Cedar Point, Ohio's legendary amusement park. This park has 75 rides (including 17 roller coasters), an outdoor water park, a year-round indoor water park and a host of other attractions

Amish Country

If you are looking to slow down your life from the craziness of the workweek, the Ohio Amish country may be just the place to go. Located two hours south of Cleveland, much of what is known as Amish Country is located in Harris County. Here, the people live without the conveniences of modern life, and guests find themselves transported to a much slower time.

There are a great many things to do in Amish country. The craftsmanship is unparalleled, and there are plenty of antique shops from which you can bring home your own piece of the Amish country. There are stables, museums, galleries and even a golf course. The restaurants here all serve old-fashioned country food, and there are plenty of inns and bed and breakfasts to choose from for lodging
