New York State is a scenic region in the northeastern part of the
United States. Many people plan trips throughout New York State to get away from all the noise and commotion in New York City,
Boston and
Philadelphia. A weekend vacation in upstate New York can be refreshing after a week of work, traffic, sirens and bright lights. New York State offers beautiful natural scenery, including the Catskills and Adirondack Mountains, as well as the Hudson River Valley.
Saugerties Lighthouse on the Hudson River
If you are looking for a romantic weekend getaway in New York State, Saugerties Lighthouse is the perfect destination. Situated on an isolated peninsula stretching out into the Hudson River, Saugerties Lighthouse was built in 1869. Nowadays, this rustic lighthouse serves as a bed & breakfast, featuring two guest rooms for overnight visitors as well as a kitchen and parlor.
Venture outside for swimming along the sandy banks of the river during the hot summer days. Nature lovers will enjoy the scenic surroundings. Most guests arrive by foot, trekking through half a mile of forest and wetlands to get to the lighthouse. You may also arrive by boat, docking at the lighthouse after having made arrangements with the keeper. Be sure to book in advance.
