This 1,509-room deluxe resort hotel is the best choice for those with the most discriminating tastes. Set on the sandy white shores of the man-made Crescent Lake, this 27-story hotel designed by Michael Graves is an architectural masterpiece. Tall and ornate, this Italian inspired resort is a sight that stands out for several miles. The tall floral cups and giant scale dolphins make the resort easily recognizable from the highway and the other nearby amusement parks. The large, pyramid-style face of the hotel catches the eyes of visitors when they make their way through palm lined courtyards and a scalloped designed entryway. The lobby is a sight to see with its custom lighting and contemporary art gallery design. The large dolphin fountain greets guests as they begin to check in.
Insider Tips

This hotel is perfect for those who want to stay in a suite during their Disney visit. The Dolphin has 112 prime suites that have whirlpool baths, kitchenettes and Heavenly brand luxurious beds for guest relaxation.

One unique attraction that is offered to guests at the Dolphin is the Fantasia Gardens miniature golf course. This is a great activity for families and children to enjoy together.

Adults can have a little down time at the Mandara Spa located on the grounds. They can enjoy mud baths, massages and aromatherapy sessions. Guests can also indulge in several recreational activities such as the health clubs, tennis courts, tropical trails, and rented water crafts.

Pros and Cons

This hotel offers a whopping six restaurants on site with an array of cuisine options. American, Mediterranean and coastal cuisine foods are available. There is a wide range of pricing options at these restaurants so affordability isn't a huge issue. There is also a food kiosk serving pre-packaged food for guests on the go. This resort is in close proximity to Hollywood Studios and Epcot---just a short boat ride away. The Disney Boardwalk offers an array of activities such as Cirque De Soleil, House of Blues and several shopping venues. One of the private perks of this hotel is the rental of the Mears town cars. These luxurious vehicles are a welcoming alternative to those who do not wish to use the Disney transportation buses and boats. There is a small rental fee to use the service.

One of the only real downfalls of the hotel is the high price of the rooms. Priced in the off season (non-holiday and spring break times) in the high two hundreds per night, this hotel can take up a chunk of a families' Disney spending change. The hotel makes up for it with its vast amenities. The grounds on this resort are mammoth. Getting around can be tiresome as resort activities are scattered about.

Bottom Line

This resort is one of the premier resorts at Disney and offers an array of amenities and activities. Not to be forgotten is the pools at this resort. There are two large-scale lap pools---which are perfect for getting the blood flowing before a busy day at the theme park. The grotto pool is a pool and playground combination with slides and waterfalls---a great spot for kids and families. Kids and adults will enjoy lounging on the beach or making sand castles. There is plenty of time to stretch out on a lounger and do some people watching as well. The Dolphin is the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring the parks at Disney or perfect for that weekend getaway.
