Las Vegas National Golf Club Review

No. 18 at Las Vegas National.
No. 18 at Las Vegas National.
Formerly the Stardust Country Club, Las Vegas National is a former PGA and LPGA Tour stop and one of the small pieces of "old Las Vegas" that still exists. It is easily accessible from the Strip. The course is a traditional parkland layout, is fairly flat but does have multiple water hazards and other challenges.
Wows and Woes

The course has plenty of history. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods both won events at Las Vegas National. But the course is in some disrepair with unkempt fairways and uneven greens. The traditional layout is quite challenging despite its condition.

Insider Tips

The earlier you can play the better. There is little shade on the course, so particularly in the summer, afternoon rounds are pretty brutal. This course is walkable and despite the desert location, has several holes with water hazards.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

Driving onto the property and walking through the clubhouse conjured images of old Las Vegas for me. Myriad photos of well-known PGA players and former film stars adorn the hallways. And sipping a cocktail at a bar that Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. once frequented was pretty neat.

Bottom Line

The location and history make this course worth checking out, but don't expect to be wowed like you would on a newer course.
