How to Travel to California

There is plenty to see in the state of California depending on where you travel to. In San Francisco, they have the coastline, seals, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge. In Los Angeles, there is the Hollywood Bowl as well as Hollywood and Beverly Hills nearby. Many game shows are based out of Burbank, Calif., which is a couple miles away from Hollywood. To travel to California, you should plan accordingly.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step 1

Determine where in California you plan to go. For example, if you plan to go to Disneyland, you will be going to Anaheim, and if you plan to visit the Thomas Kinkaid museum, it will be in Monterey. This will help you decide how to travel to the state. Some cities have all of the transportation needed such as taxis and buses, making it easier to get around without driving.

Step 2

Get your passport or visa to travel to California. If you are traveling from another country, check to see what requirements are needed before you travel. When planning to travel to California for work or education, you will need a visa if coming from a country such as Russia or Peru. If you are traveling from Canada, you will not need a visa but will need a passport.

Step 3

Plan your route if traveling by car. If you are coming from another state, such as Oregon or Washington, decide if you'll take Interstate 5 or Highway 101. Make plans for an alternative route in case road blocks or intense traffic hinders you from getting where you need to go.

Step 4

Fly to California. There are at least 15 airports in California, and depending on what time of year you are flying, you can find good deals--especially during the offseason such as January and February. Certain cities such as San Francisco are better to fly into because there is plenty of public transportation available, and parking is difficult to find.

Step 5

Take the bus to California. Greyhound is one of the most popular buses that travel throughout the country. The Greyhound bus will stop in most towns and cities in the state.

Step 6

Take the scenic route. The California coastline is one of the most scenic in the county. To see the sites off the beaten path, take the Amtrak train to your destination. Not only will you get a great view of the coastline, but you can also view wineries along with some wildlife.

Step 7

Pack your suitcase according to the weather. As it gets closer to the date of your trip, check to see what type of weather is expected. During the summer, California is generally warm with some cool nights, especially if you are near the coast. During the winter, the weather can be cool and very cold near the coastline. Spring and fall generally are pleasant and mild.
