Tourist Attractions in Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls has attracted millions of tourists over the years. This natural wonder is one of the most visited attractions in North America. Situated on the border between the
United States and
Canada, Niagara Falls has evolved from a military outpost to a world famous tourist destination. The Niagara river runs along the border, spilling over the massive cliffs to produce two stunning waterfalls. The American Falls reach an impressive height of 184 feet while the Horseshoe Canadian Falls stand at 177 feet. Niagara Falls has a lot to offer, so do not miss out on some of the primary tourist attractions when you come to visit.
Maid of the Mist
One of the most iconic tourist attractions at Niagara Falls is the Maid of the Mist. This famous boat tour takes you as close as you can get to the thundering waterfalls. Boats with a lower and upper deck depart regularly from both the American and Canadian side of the falls. Tickets cost about $14 for adults and $8 for children. The cruise takes about 20 minutes as you pass by the American Falls before arriving at the foot of the Horseshoe Falls. A complimentary rain poncho is included with the ticket in order to help keep you dry since the mist and spray from the falls can leave you soaking wet.
Skylon Tower
Once you have seen the falls from below, get an amazing panoramic view from above. The Skylon Tower can be found in the city of Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. Visitors go up 520 feet for a great view of the waterfalls and Queen Victoria Park. An elevator takes you to the observation deck, and then you can head one level down to the revolving dining room for a completely unique dining experience. Open for lunch and dinner, the restaurant revolves 360 degrees while you eat, providing a wide variety of views. Tickets for the elevator cost $10.50 for adults and $6 for children.
Rainbow Bridge
The Rainbow Bridge links the Canadian and American sides of the falls. Completed in 1941, the Rainbow Bridge stands 200 feet tall. It is nearly 1,000 feet in length. Situated slightly downriver from the falls, the Rainbow Bridge offers a great vantage point for photographs. It costs just $0.50 each way for pedestrians to cross the bridge. Niagara Falls has fireworks every Friday in the evening during the summer months. The Rainbow Bridge is a perfect spot to take in this spectacle after a day of visiting the falls.
