An 18th birthday marks the transition into adulthood. It is usually a major life change as the person graduates from high school and moves into the world to do bigger and better things. Thus it is fun and customary to celebrate one's 18th birthday in a different way than you might have celebrated other birthdays. Since you're not yet able to drink alcohol legally in all places, at 18 the big "party atmosphere" is likely out, but there are lots of other great things you can do.
Go on a Trip
Get some close friends together and choose a location to travel to. Make it a weekend adventure or a weeklong trip. Choose a place, pack up the car, and get going. Be sure you have a map, cell phone, enough clothes and cash for your trip and a camera. Take lots of photos so you can make a scrapbook later and share the pictures with your friends. Or rent a cabin in the mountains or a little place by the beach and have a party weekend. Go there with your closest friends, but invite others up for the nightly bonfire party, picnic lunch or other festivities. Take games with you, and stop at a grocery store to pick up some grub. You will have all the ingredients you need for a fun-filled weekend.
Go to an 18+ Casino or Club
Most clubs are 18 and over, so you can go out for a night of dancing. You will likely have your hand stamped to signify you're under the legal drinking age, but you don't need alcohol to have a good time. Get dressed up, and choose a cool restaurant to go to beforehand so that you have some food in your system. Then hit the clubs to get the dancing started.
Go to an Amusement Park
Amusement parks aren't just for kids. In fact you'll likely have a lot more fun as an 18-year-old who can go on any ride you choose. Get some friends together and pick a place and date. Make it into a full-day adventure with a sleepover afterwards, or stay in a hotel and continue the party after the park closes. Be sure to take photos, because you'll want to remember the funny times and share them with those who couldn't attend.
Have a Party and Co-Ed Sleepover
You're 18, so the whole co-ed sleepover should be okay with your folks by now. Get a DJ, some catering and plan fun games for later in the night, such as "spin the bottle." If you have a pool or spa, you can all jump in and make it into a pool party as well.
