Things to Do on Spring Break in Alabama

Alabama is not a hot spot for college kids and families looking for a spring break destination. That doesn't mean that there aren't a ton of fun activities in the state for people to enjoy during a spring vacation. Many great artists and writers were born in the South giving it a rich culture and history. Alabama has many hidden jewels waiting to be discovered by any tourist.
Orange Beach and Gulf Shores

Along the Gulf Coasts, families and college students flock to Orange beach in Alabama. The state of Alabama doesn't have many beaches, but Orange Beach is one of the cleanest and fun-filled. Many enjoy active nightlife at the many pubs, bars and restaurants along the coast while chartering boats during the day for a lazy afternoon on the water. The Gulf Shores are famous for their fishing, and many trips are planned during Spring Break. Very large prizes have been caught in these waters; the most plentiful fish are Spanish mackerel, sheepshead, king mackerel, bluefish, redfish and cobia.

The Arts and Heritage in Birmingham, Alabama

Being the civil rights capital of the country, Birmingham is rich with culture and heritage. Many attractions include the Civil Rights Institute, McWane Center, Alabama Adventure Amusement Park and a host of neighborhoods catering to sidewalk artists, writers and musicians. College kids interested in the arts really enjoy this city during spring break, for The Alabama Symphony, Alys Stephens Center, WorkPlay Theater, Alabama Theater, and Alabama School of Fine Arts are all housed here and consistently have wonderful productions such as Wicked and Jekyll and Hyde---The Musical.

Other Attractions

When you think of Spring Break, you think of outdoor activities. One of the best attractions is the Barber Motorsports Park. With a world class 2.3 mile road course, Barber Motorsports is the perfect place for any racing fan. The museum houses the largest collection of motorcycles in the world, with over 1,100 vintage bikes enjoyed by thousands of visitors each day. During the Spring Break season, they have many events, including Indy Racing Preseason and the Mustang Classic.
Other attractions include the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, Talladega Speedway, Birmingham Museum of Art and Vulcan Park. The local nightlife has something for everyone, including jazz, blues, acoustic, alternative rock, billiards, comedy clubs,and dance halls, as well as quality shopping, dining, and accommodations.
