Things to do & See in Las Vegas
Las Vegas has long been known as the desert oasis where anything goes. Nightlife, entertainment, world-class restaurants and spas grace the Strip in addition to the beautiful hotels. Whether on a budget, just going for the weekend or planning an extravagant trip for two, Las Vegas can accommodate everyone. For anyone going to Sin City for the first time, here are just some of the affordable and memorable things to do and see in Las Vegas.
Entertainment
The Beatles: LOVE
Check out a show. Las Vegas is home to Broadway plays, musical entertainment, comedy and magic shows, as well as visual shows like Cirque du Soleil.
LOVE: The Beatles - This Cirque du Soleil visual show sets acrobatics to the music of The Beatles. This show is located in the Love Theater at the Mirage Hotel, 3400 S. Las Vegas Blvd. Show times are at 7 and 9:30 p.m. each Thursday through Monday. As of 2009, ticket prices range from $142.50 and up, depending on seating. Call (702) 792-7777 to purchase tickets.
Blue Man Group: This popular show featuring music and entertainment from three blue men is one of the hottest shows in Vegas. Check them out at The Blue Man Group Theater located in the Venetian resort, Hotel and Casino at 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. S. Show times are 7 and 10 p.m. nightly, and as of 2009, ticket prices start at $100, depending on seating location. Call 1-800-BLUEMAN for ticket purchases and information.
Nightlife
LAX Nightclub
Dance the night away in a nightclub. Las Vegas features many clubs and lounges, all of which feature current music and substantial crowds. Many clubs require a dress code and cover charge, so be prepared to pay cash at the door for entrance.
LAX at Luxor: This hip 26,000 square foot nightclub features a VIP area and table service, various dance floors and plenty of bars to get drinks. Located in the Luxor Hotel and Casino at 3900 Las Vegas Blvd. S., LAX is open at 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Call (702) 262-4LAX for general information or guest lists.
Shopping
The Forum Shops
Shop at some of the best stores in the world. From high end designers to everyday retail stores, Las Vegas has it all. Many of the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip also have shops located within, so be sure to check out various locations.
The Forum Shops: Located within Caesars Palace are over 120 shops featuring apparel, shoes, accessories and furnishings. Located at 3570 Las Vegas Blvd. S., call for additional information at (866) 227-5938.
Attractions
Lake Mead
Relax away from the Strip. Aside from the casinos and hotels, Las Vegas has plenty to offer in terms of attractions. Get out of town for a few hours by heading to the popular Lake Mead where visitors can relax on a rented boat, Jet Ski or just lounge around the lake's edge. The lake is open 24 hours a day, and the entrance fee is $5 per vehicle or $3 per person if on foot. Lake Mead is a 30-minute drive from Las Vegas by taking the U.S. 93 through Boulder City, Nev. The lake is located at 601 National Highway in Boulder City. Call (702) 293-8907 for additional information.
