Things to Do in Sacramento Area With Kids

If you are planning to be in the northern California city of Sacramento (the capital of the state) with children, then you should not fret, because the area has an abundance of fun activities for kids to partake in. From water parks to zoos and historical sites, there is something for every type of kid while they are in Sacramento. Not to mention, their parents can usually have a good time as well.
Funderland Park

Funderland is an excellent amusement park for young children between the ages of two and twelve years old. There are a lot of kiddie rides that children are sure to enjoy, including classics like tea cups, trains, a carousel and even a mini roller coaster. The amusement park also has a lot of fun food and drink options that both kids and adults are sure to love, offering items like pretzels, hot dogs, slushies and churros.

Raging Waters

Raging Waters is a popular water park in Sacramento that is full of aquatic-related entertainment for kids and adults. Whether you want to go on steep water slides for daredevils or go water rafting on gentle waters, this water park has something for everybody to enjoy. For smaller children that are more afraid of the water, there are also a lot of very kid-friendly, relaxed ride options as well (the park has a "kiddie" section).

Sutter's Fort

Sutter's Fort is an educational way for children to learn about the early history of Sacramento as a city. Sutter's Fort Historical State Park is an authentic fort that features extremely thick and high walls. The fort is a museum that details the Central Valley's first non-Native American settlement. Named after an immigrant from Switzerland called John Sutter, children and parents alike will be able to learn a lot from the many maps, pictures and letters from Sacramento's earliest European settlers.

Sacramento Zoo

The Sacramento Zoo has been in existence since June of 1927, and spans fourteen acres. With over four-hundred animals on display at this zoo, children will have a lot of fun exploring the many exhibits. The zoo even has a "Kid's World" section with fun activities including the "Frog Life Cycle Activity," "Bird Feeder Project," "Tied Dyed Eggs Project" and many others. From exotic creatures like Bibron's geckos to Coquerel's sifaka and golden-bellied mangabeys, this zoo has a lot to offer to visitors.

California State Railroad Museum

The California State Railroad Museum is part of the "Old Sacramento" historical area of the city, and it is believed to be the most popular railroad museum in the United States. From fascinating exhibits, to restored trains and even train rides, parents and kids will have an engaging and educational time at this museum. The exhibits at the museum range from topics such as women's roles in the California railroad system to depictions of railroad tourism advertisements of the past. The events and exhibitions at this museum are always changing and evolving.
