With summer right around the corner, you may be thinking about what are some things to do that will be fun for the whole family. There are many sights to see in this great nation, which make the possibilities endless. Pennsylvania and Ohio are two states that offer plenty of great activities. From historical sights to shopping to sporting events and much, much more, you can't go wrong. Once you decide your destination, call your travel agent and get ready for a fun-filled summer.
Drake Well Museum
When you think of Pennsylvania, attractions such as the Liberty Bell or The Betsy Ross House may come to mind. However, the other sites are just as interesting. When you think of oil rigs, Texas might come to mind, but it's the Drake Well Museum that sits on the very spot where oil was first discovered. Edwin Drake made that discovery in 1859. You can watch oil being pumped from that very site. The museum features a wax model of Mr. Drake. There are also replicas of the historical machinery.
Insectarium
Pennsylvania is also home to the largest insectarium in the nation. If you like bugs, you'll love this place. There are several glass-encased bug--black widows to centipedes to stink bugs. Kids can crawl through a spider web. Murals of all sizes cover the wall. The main attraction, however, is the Model Roach Kitchen. This is a replica of a kitchen that houses thousands of bugs. It's enough to give you the creepy crawlies.
The Groundhog
Last but not least, Pennsylvania is home to Punxsutawney Phil, that lovable groundhog we all look for to find out how much longer we have to put up with the ice and snow. However, you don't have to wait for February 2 to see him. Phil's image is everywhere, even on a dollar bill. He even has his own zoo--appropriately named the Groudhog Zoo.
Cedar Point
Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, has been called the best amusement park. It boast 68 rides and 16 roller coasters for your enjoyment. With so much at your disposal you can't go wrong. Cedar Point is sure to be fun for the whole family.
Freedom Center
Take in a little bit of history at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Here you can trace the history of slavery from the very beginning when Africans landed on America's shores. Learn about the abolitionists and the Civil War. See displays and artifacts from this period in our history.
Backpack Trails
If you love the outdoors, Ohio offers two backpack trails. Both trails feature waterfalls and a lake, and there's no shortage of wildlife. Each trail has watering holes for your comfort. There is also camping available with fire pits.
