Things to Do Overnight in Ohio
Ohio, the "Buckeye State," is an interesting mixture of big cities, world-class attractions, rural landscapes and outdoor beauty. Visitors who just stop for the day are missing out on many of the state's attractions: cabins to rent along Lake Erie and in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio; nightlife to savor in the cities of Cleveland and Columbus and on the Lake Erie islands; and historic bed-and-breakfast inns to explore.
Spend the Night in a State Park
The majority of Ohio's more than 70 state parks offer accommodations, whether along the shores of Lake Erie at Maumee Bay State Park in northwest Ohio, at Geneva State Park in northeast Ohio, or amid the caves and cliffs of the Hocking Hills in southeast Ohio at Lake Hope State Park. These range from cabins to lodge rooms to historic inns, such as the one at Malabar Farm State Park outside of Mansfield. Reservations for all of the parks can be made online.
Explore Ohio's Nightlife
Ohio's cities and resort communities don't close when the sun goes down. Visitors to Ohio will enjoy the trendy restaurants and clubs in Cleveland's warehouse district, beer-barrel polka and sausage at Schmidt's Sausage Haus in Columbus' German Village, and the free-flowing beer and music at the Round House Bar at Put-in-Bay on Lake Erie's South Bass Island.
Stay in an Historic Bed and Breakfast Inn
Old stagecoach inns (Golden Lamb in central Ohio), former mansions (Cleveland's Glidden House) and Victorian homes (such as the Water's Edge Retreat on Kelley's Island), all combine history with comfortable accommodations. Relive Ohio's diverse past by staying overnight in one of these unique hostelries.
