Ohio is an incredibly diverse state, offering the relaxation of the countryside and wilderness, as well as the excitement of major cities. Sports fans, clubbers, families who just want to get away for the weekend will all find appealing activities to fill their evenings and nights in Ohio.
Overnight Stay At Mansfield Prison
Have you ever wanted to experience a taste of prison life? The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield offers an overnight experience in its old prison building (no longer in operation). This is the building in and around which The Shawshank Redemption was filmed, and for thrill seekers and those who want to be spooked, its a perfect opportunity.
Sports Games
Baseball fans can check out the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds play ball in their respective home ballparks. Both teams have special student discount nights periodically throughout the summer, and the Indians occasionally have fireworks displays after games, weather permitting.
Basketball fans should definitely take the opportunity to see Lebron James and his fellow Cavaliers nail baskets at the Q in downtown Cleveland.
Lake Erie Dinner Cruise
Step aboard the Goodtime III, Cleveland's premier lake and river cruise boat, for dazzling nighttime views of the city and a romantic dinner. If you would like, you can even stay on the boat after dinner for a live band and dance party. Dinner cruises take place on Saturday nights, require a reservation and are restricted to 21 or older.
Night Hikes
Stay overnight at one of the state's many campgrounds--from Hocking Hills to Kelleys Island--and tackle the trails at night. It is a completely different outdoors experience than daytime hikes, and you just might be awed by the night sky or by the different wildlife you see.
Cleveland's Nightlife
If you are looking for music and bar hopping, consider Cleveland's West 6th Street/Warehouse District area for a selection of popular nightclubs. Make sure to stop by The Velvet Dog and Spy. If you are looking for live music, head to the Agora Theater, Time Warner Ampitheater and The House of Blues (concert calendars vary). For laughs, go to Pickwick and Frolic, across the street from the House of Blues and its "Hilarities" comedy club.
