Oahu is known by many as the "heart" of the Hawaiian Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Oahu is home to many of Hawaii's most prominent tourist attractions, including Waikiki
beach and, of course, Honolulu, the state's capital and biggest city. There is no shortage of things to do and see while in Oahu, from strolling alongside picturesque
beaches to taking in historical landmarks.
Diamond Head
Diamond Head, an extinct volcanic crater, is one of Oahu's most notable attractions. Located in the Waikiki Beach area, the Diamond Head crater is a scenic hiking location. The top of the mountain offers majestic, panoramic views of Hawaii.
Bishop Museum
Bishop Museum in Honolulu is another exciting Oahu tourist draw. Consider visiting this museum if you are interested in Hawaii's diverse culture, history and heritage. The museum offers up-close looks at Hawaiian artifacts and Hawaiian royal family heirlooms, and you can also learn about various other Pacific Islands.
Iolani Palace
Located in downtown Honolulu, Iolani Palace is one of Hawaii's most respected and adored historical landmarks. It has the distinction of being the sole royal palace located on American soil. The palace is two stories high and was once the home of King Kalakaua and Queen Liliuokalani and has an American Florentine architectural style. There are various guided tours available.
Byodo-in-Temple
Byodo-in-Temple in Kahaluu's Valley of the Temples on Oahu's windward side is a replica of an old Buddhist temple in the historical city of Kyoto, Japan. The Hawaiian version was constructed to memorialize the initial Japanese-Hawaiians who migrated to Oahu to work on the island's sugar plantations. It is believed that ringing the temple's bronze bell will bring you good fortune and luck.
