Things to Do in NYC in September
September is an ideal time for singles and couples to visit New York City because children are back in school, so fewer tourists are in the city. The month is also when you can experience the city's seasonal sports and cultural abundance and take part in remembering the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Feast of San Gennaro

The first Feast of San Gennaro in New York took place on Sept. 19, 1926, after immigrants from Italy settled on Mulberry Street. That feast lasted only a day. Today, the celebration lasts 11 days. According to the Feast of San Gennaro website, Sept. 19 remains a highlight of the celebration. On that day, a procession carrying a statue of San Gennaro, a martyr, makes its way down Mulberry and Mott streets, between Canal and Houston streets. The food, entertainment and party-like atmosphere of the feast attract about a million visitors annually.

The Ground Zero Museum Workshop

Sept. 11 is the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Gary Marlon Suson photographed the recovery operation. Visitors can see his work at the Ground Zero Museum Workshop. The museum is small, but the photographs of the rescue operations, stories of the people who ran the recovery mission and physical remains of the architecture will affect everyone who walks through the doors.
