The old black and white Christmas movies of years ago showed scenes of people dressed in hats, coats and scarves enjoying all kinds of winter activities. Many of these scenes were filmed in
New York, and watching the old movies now brings a desire to experience those things. It is not hard to find fun activities in this bustling city.
Ice Skating
There are several ice skating rinks in New York. One of these outdoor rinks is used for ice skating in the winter months and as a pool in the summer. Indoor rinks used for ice skating were first built around 1940, and have grown in popularity ever since. Although there are still outdoor rinks available, indoor rinks provide greater safety and comfort. Many rinks such as the Lasker Skating Rink in Central Park, offer lessons for the novice ice skater.

Winter's Eve
Winter's Eve, taking place in December, is the largest holiday festival in New York City. Streets will be filled with adults and children of all ages enjoying street performers and musicians, jugglers and a variety of other entertainment. Businesses offer all kinds of in-store activities for every age. There are also food tastings, and of course lots of opportunity for shopping along the Upper West Side.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular
Radio City Music Hall features the Radio City Christmas Spectacular from mid-November to the end of December. The show features the Rockettes performing the "Nutcracker" and the "Living Nativity." The show also features "New York at Christmas" and the "Parade of Wooden Soldiers." Because of the popularity of the show, it is recommended that you purchase tickets as soon as you decide to visit New York during the season.
