Ground Zero

Perhaps one of the most memorable moments in our nation's history took place on September 11, 2001--the day terrorists hijacked four planes, two of which destroyed the World Trade Center's Twin Towers. That day, more than 3,000 people were killed; the wreckage left behind was named Ground Zero. No trip to New York City would be complete without visiting the space where these towers once stood, the place where rescue workers searched tirelessly for survivors and for remains of those who lost their lives. It is open seven days a week, and for a $10 donation, you can get a one-hour guided tour. Visiting the area that changed our nation forever will surely leave you with a mixture of emotions as you view the exhibits that display the loss, heroism and survival Ground Zero represents.

Jekyll and Hyde Restaurant and Bar

If you've ever felt as though you just don't belong, then the Jekyll and Hyde Restaurant may be just the spot for you. It was created by Dr. Henry Jekyll in 1931 as a place to continue his work, where he could be accepted for who he was--a scientist many labeled "mad". Soon it became a meeting place for others like him: scientists, philosophers and explorers whose scientific theories and adventures were shunned by their colleagues and society. Today, the Jekyll and Hyde Restaurant and Bar is thought to be haunted by the living memory of the artifacts, plaques and work that Dr. Jekyll and his traveling "wacky" friends left behind. This establishment not only serves delectable food, it also offers more than 200 types of beer, is open seven days a week, and provides amazing entertainment every 10 minutes that keeps guests on the edges of their seats. In fact, guests are warned ahead of time that anything can happen--and it usually does when you choose to dine with Dr. Jekyll and his friends and their memorabilia.

Accomplice: The Show

For those who have a supersleuth hidden deep inside, this is just the activity for you. It combines the theater with a game, while offering a spectacular tour of the city, all rolled into one. Using Manhattan's Greenwich Village as its backdrop, groups of 10 people are sent off every half hour between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. They are given a few bits of information as they set off into places such as bars, seedy alleys and street corners. It is in these places that cast members await them; over the course of three hours, each group must piece their clues together and decide who's an accomplice to what, and did they commit a crime. Each production is unique, and participating in a production the week before will not be helpful the following week. Since its inception, it has been described as innovative and captivating. The show runs from March to November and is something every tourist should participate in before leaving. Reservations are definitely recommended and tickets can be ordered online at zerve.com.
