Things to Do Near Hunter Mountain
Less than three hours away from
New York City, Hunter Mountain is a prime destination for lovers of the outdoors. Besides the activities offered on the mountain itself, there also many things to do around, from festivals to unique attractions.
Mountain Top Arboretum
One of the few arboretums to exist at high altitudes, this was created as an experiment in growing mild-temperature trees at high altitude. Around since 1970, the place was obviously a success and today houses everything from rhododendrons to ferns. The trees and flowers grow in open spaces, and birds (especially finches and hummingbirds but also duck, turkeys and thrushes) and other forms of wildlife call the place home. Visitors can also see wild geese here during spring and autumn.
